This past summer the American Academy of Pediatrics released in its journal the Clinical Report – Health Supervision for Children With Down Syndrome. The online version of this article, along with updated information is located at http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/early/2011/07/21/peds.2011-1605
These guidelines are designed to assist the pediatrician but are helpful to parents as well. Pediatricians typically care for a child with a confirmed diagnosis of Down syndrome from infancy into adolescence. This report will also be helpful to a woman whose baby has been given a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome to become aware of the testing and possible procedures that will occur once the baby is born.
